Frequently Asked
Questions
What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played with a paddle and a perforated plastic ball on a small court with a low net. develop a plan that will transform your dreams into lasting memories.
How is pickleball different from tennis?
Pickleball has a smaller court, a different scoring system, an underhand serve, and a unique “kitchen” (non-volley zone) that limits aggressive net play.
Why is pickleball so popular?
It’s easy to learn, social, and accessible to all ages and skill levels. The smaller court size and slower ball speed make it less physically demanding than tennis, while still being highly competitive and fun.
What kind of paddle should I use?
We provide paddles for our students to use if they want to try playing the game before they buy their own. Paddles can be expensive. Let’s try a few before you choose one.
Brands I recommend are Vatic Pro, Spartus and 11six24.
I generally recommend standard/widebody shapes for people with little racquet experience, but some players who are coming from tennis might be better off with other shapes.
What balls should I use?
Depending on indoor/outdoor and surface texture. Franklin X-40’s are used primarily outdoors in the summer and they are the default ball that everyone is OK with.
How can I improve my pickleball game?
Pickleball is a game that you can learn organically—through play, experience, and repetition, you will naturally improve over time. However, a good coach can accelerate your progress by identifying blind spots and bottlenecks that might be holding you back. The key is providing guidance without robbing you of the learning experience.
While online content can be helpful, learning things out of sequence can sometimes create frustration. Every player learns differently—some progress best with a step-by-step approach, while others take intuitive leaps and fill in the gaps later. A great learning experience meets you where you are, allowing you to develop skills naturally and enjoyably.
